NIAGARA FALLS World Wrestling Entertainment champ Brock Lesnar was a last-minute cancellation at the WWE Niagara Falls store last night, but hundreds of fans didnt seem to mind.
Thats because his replacement was wildly popular diva/wrestler Trish Stratus.
They just called my cellphone and said, Come on down, says the former (and likely future) WWE womens champ, who lives in Toronto. Normally Id be on the road, but I was home and ready to come out and meet the fans.
Stratus was originally scheduled to sign autographs today at noon, but plans changed when Lesner, who headlined this years Wrestlemania, was injured in a boating accident Friday. WWE publicist Pam McIntyre says the boats propeller lacerated Lesner, and the injury was severe enough to thwart his visit to Niagara Falls.
Stratus was filming her WWE home video in Toronto when the call came. Its her second visit within a year to the WWE store on Clifton Hill she also attended last summers grand opening.
And its not all business when she visits the falls.
I have to admit, Im quite the gambler, she shrugs. Im a roulette player, so the perk is coming to this great place, meeting the fans, and then going to blow some money at the casino.
A huge crowd gathered outside the store cheered every mention of Stratus name.
Theyll likely be cheering for some time Stratus says her wrestling days are far from over.
As long as I can keep giving 100 per cent, Ill be doing this, she says. Theres so many opportunities that come my way by being in this business.
The WWE Weekend continues today with veteran announcer Jim Ross hosting a fan barbecue at noon, followed by wrestlers Stacy Keibler and Edge signing autographs at 7 p.m.
Another fan favourite, Lita, drops by Sunday at noon.
